There is no need for UNHRC office in Sri Lanka

Deputy Minister of Power & Renewable Energy Ajith P. Perera said that the government has been dismissed out of hand a suggestion, made by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), to establish a permanent United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) office in Sri Lanka.

He made this statement at the Cabinet media briefing.

“There is no need for such an office. We do not agree with every proposal made by the TNA,” he emphasized.

There will be no foreign Judges sitting in on any alleged war crimes probe mechanism, hence there won’t be a Hybrid Court too he added.

“The International community has faith in our legal system. There is no big issue about this,” he added.
