New gazette not only violating HR, but also used to take political revenge


Ranjith Withanage, the President of National Movement for Consumer Rights’ Protection (NMCRP) stated that the gazette notice which issued by President Maithripala Sirisena is violating human rights of public.

Also it could be used to take political revenge, he added.

He said the gazette notice issued under clause 17 of the Public Safety Act has violated the Constitution exposing the Unity Government’s dictatorship even when there was no state of emergency within the country.

“Under the this gazette notice, innocent people could be arrested without a warrant,” he pointed out.
